A non-invasive examination used to diagnose epilepsy, disorders of consciousness, sleep disorders, fainting or certain inflammatory brain conditions.

An EEG examination (electroencephalography) is a non-invasive method used to record the electrical activity of the brain. It is used to diagnose epilepsy, disorders of consciousness, sleep disorders, fainting or certain inflammatory brain conditions.

The examination is intended for adults and children aged 15 and over. It is painless, takes approximately 20–40 minutes and is performed in a calm environment with minimal burden on the patient.

During the EEG examination, the patient lies comfortably while electrodes are attached to the head using gel to record brain activity. The examination is painless and performed at rest; breathing or light stimulation may sometimes be included.
